Fingerprint Clearance Cards in Arizona
In Arizona, a Fingerprint Clearance Card can open doors to jobs, licenses, housing, and more. However, the process can be confusing or overwhelming, especially if you’re not sure where to start. That’s where ADRC comes in.
Through our Free Legal Clinic, we offer step-by-step support to help you apply for your card or request a Good Cause Exception if needed. Whether you’re applying for the first time or navigating a denial, we’re here to make sure you’re not doing it alone.
What Is a Fingerprint Clearance Card?
A Fingerprint Clearance Card (FCC) is issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). It’s required for jobs in education, healthcare, caregiving, and other positions where you work with vulnerable populations.
If DPS finds certain arrests or convictions on your record, they may deny your application. But you have the right to appeal, and that’s where we can help.

When You Need a Good Cause Exception (GCE)
If you’ve been denied a card due to your background, you can petition the Board of Fingerprinting for a Good Cause Exception. This gives you the chance to explain your story, show your growth, and ask for a second chance.
You may qualify if:
- Your charges are non-disqualifying or dated
- You’ve completed probation or sentence requirements
- You've made positive changes and can show rehabilitation
Many people give up because the process is confusing or intimidating. Don’t! Let’s work through it together.
